TERRABASICA is a product designed to easily and safely solve the problem of accidental spills of sulfuric acid.
Developed to protect people and property, TERRABASICA is an effective neutraliser made with rich calcareous sands of calcium carbonate.
TERRABASICA has been tested and approved by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia to provide a safe solution for professional users.
Because it meets the specified standards, allowing access at all times to the necessary information via reliable, accredited partners.
TERRABASICA is composed of limestone and sands rich in calcium carbonate and, for this reason, it is not considered dangerous according to Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP) and subsequent amendments regarding chemical products.
Because it does not contain any lime, soda or other irritating, corrosive or searing powders and it comes in resealable airtight buckets.
It neutralises effectively: in fact, 800 grams per litre of acid is sufficient*. This allows a workshop/garage to keep a stock of only 20 kg (2 buckets) at any time to fulfil the requirements of the decree.
For each intended use it is prescribed a minimum quantity to be equipped with.
STARTER BATTERIESFor a workshop/garage 20 kg of TERRABASICA (2 buckets) will suffice.
For spare parts dealerships, and car/motorcycle dealers 80 kg of TERRABASICA are required.
For retailers with a wholesale depot 160 kg of TERRABASICA will be enough.
For transportation of batteries 40kg of TERRABASICA is sufficient as a maximum requirement under the Italian Ministerial Decree 20/2011 for each vehicle involved in the transport of the batteries, including those engaged in waste transport or those intervening in the event of an accident.
For transportation of starter batteries the requirement is one bucket for every 25 batteries being transported*.
*Assuming the acid content in a battery is 5 litres.
To facilitate the identification of the quantities of TERRABASICA see the exemplary table showing the required number of 10 kg buckets(*), according to opening days of the waste disposal centre.

(*) The TERRABASICA quantities have been evaluated in the case of car batteries with an average weight of 16 kg. Opening times are for 52 weeks of the year.
As for fixed batteries, read the amount of acid present in the two elements of the battery, for multiple batteries add up the quantities of acid in the two elements for each battery. After that multiply the total quantity (in litres) by 0.8. The result expresses the necessary amount of TERRABASICA in kg for the batteries in question.
As for portable batteries, read the amount of acid present in the larger battery and multiply the quantity (in litres) by 0.8. The result gives the necessary amount of TERRABASICA in kg for every 30 batteries of this kind.
For all workplaces where carts with traction batteries are circulating or where charging of traction batteries takes place, the amount of TERRABASICA needed is evaluated based on the number of batteries and considering the battery with the highest acid content.
If in such places maintenance and replacement of batteries also occur then the quantities ARE DOUBLED.
Up to 5 batteries: read the amount of acid in the largest battery and multiply the amount of acid (in litres) by 0.4. The result expresses the necessary amount of TERRABASICA in kg for the batteries in question.
Up to 20 batteries: read the amount of acid in the largest battery and multiply the amount of acid (in litres) by 0.8. The result is the required amount of TERRABASICA in kg.
More than 20 batteries: read the amount of acid in the largest battery and multiply the amount of acid (in litres) by 1.6. The result is the required amount of TERRABASICA in kg.
* Sulphuric Acid with a density of 1.27 kg / dm3, according to Italian Ministerial Decree 20/2011
Once the absorption and neutralisation reaction has taken place, which takes about 20 minutes, the resulting solid can easily be removed or left in the spill area without the risk of secondary corrosive reactions.
The removed solid can also be collected using the empty TERRABASICA container, ready for pick-up and disposal by the authorised operator.
Laboratory tests have shown that the proper use of TERRABASICA for the absorption and neutralisation of sulphuric acid generates a non-hazardous waste.
Of course the qualitative characteristics of the waste depend on the specific conditions of use and can be influenced by, for example, the density of the acid solution, the amount of TERRABASICA used and the possible use of TERRABASICA on unclean surfaces or in containers containing remnants of waste oil or other hazardous substances. For this reason, the characterisation of the waste and the responsibility remains with the user, who will have to identify the correct recovery/disposal methods.
TERRABASICA, as a neutralising substance, is designed to protect against damage to property and persons and complies with the following decrees:
Legislative Decree 152/06 (Art.195, paragraph 2, letter Q)
It states that the temporary storage of waste should take place "in accordance with the relevant technical standards and, for hazardous
waste, in compliance with rules governing the storage of the dangerous substances contained in them";
Italian Ministerial Decree 20/2011.
Refers to the technical standard of reference for the restraint of pollution and accidents due to the spill of sulphuric acid.
